About the CCC's Lunar New Year Celebration
As with Christmas and Thanksgiving in American culture, the Chinese celebrate Lunar New Year as their most significant and most festive holiday of the year. It is for this reason, as well as the growing Chinese population of Malden, that the CCC began hosting the Lunar New Year Celebration in 2010.
From its inception, the event has been more than just a celebration of Chinese arts and culture across time and space. It provides a unique opportunity to establish cross-cultural friendships, improve cross-cultural communication, and convey love and affection across cultural boundaries. A highlight of Malden’s annual calendar, it attracts hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds. Every year, those from the Chinese community participate with pride as they share their heritage, along with their identity and lived experiences. Over the past few years, there has also been a growing representation of other Asian cultures at this event.
This year, the Celebration will feature about 20 performances by performing groups and individual artists from across Greater Boston.

Lunar New Year Stamp Release
Our event has long served as a platform for unveiling the Lunar New Year stamps issued by the USPS. This year,
the U.S. Postmaster of Boston will be with us to present the latest series in celebration of the Year of the Rabbit.

COVID Coping Strategy Contest Award Ceremony
One highlight of this year's Celebration will be the COVID Coping Strategy Contest Award Ceremony. The
contest is organized by the CCC and Malden Reads, aiming to inspire people to share their strategies for coping
with stress and how they were able to regain joy and peace during the pandemic.

No celebration would be complete without singing and dancing. Enjoy a feast of audiovisual delights, from classical to contemporary!
A major highlight will be the world-famous Thousand Hands Guan Yin
Dance recreated by four local dance troupes. Stand-up comedy, folk
music, traditional Chinese fashion shows, K-pop, and more exciting
performances await you!

Chinese arts and crafts activities
The tradition of exhibiting Chinese arts and crafts on site is back! Also
provided are related hands-on activities for the whole family: Chinese
lantern riddles, Spring Festival couplets, photo booth for family, face
painting, rice dough sculptures, and more.

Raffles for prizes and gifts themed around Lunar New Year
Among the interactive components of this year's Celebration will be
raffles, a popular favorite among our audience. Be sure not to miss out

Last year's virtual Lunar New Year Celebration was well received by the Chinese community throughout the world. However, a survey of stakeholder feedback revealed that online live streaming was not accessible to some critical components of our audience, including the elderly. Our decision this year is to hold the event in person once again.
We intend to maintain the festive atmosphere we provided for our audience before the pandemic while inviting performers of the same high quality as last year. With the return of traditional Chinese arts and crafts hands-on experiences and the development of several new activities, we are in need of sponsorship support.
